Built for the Hard Way Up.

Eight hundred expeditions. Sixty-six peaks. Four decades. Not a claim, a ledger — kept since 1987 on the mountains themselves, where the numbers are hardest to earn.

1987Beginning of the Legacy
800+Expeditions Organised
66+Peaks Operated
42+Nations Served
150+ Everest Expeditions

The Operating Record

What follows is the chronological record of Thamserku's work on the world's highest mountains — the records, firsts, exploratory ascents, and operational milestones organised through the company across four decades in the Nepal Himalaya. Each entry is an expedition Thamserku stood behind. The names on the summits belong to the climbers who reached them. The ground teams, the logistics, and the institutional knowledge that carried them up belong to the company.

The First Season
CHAPTER I · 1987

The First Season

Thamserku Trekking opens in Kathmandu, a Sherpa-founded company in the first generation of Nepali-owned expedition operators. In its opening season, the company goes straight to serious mountains — Dhaulagiri I, Pumori, and Sita Chuchura — without holding back.

The Fastest Ascent
CHAPTER II · 1988

The Fastest Ascent

In its first full year, Marc Batard's record-breaking speed ascent of Everest was organised with Thamserku as one of the key organizing partners, making it the fastest ascent the mountain had ever witnessed — a record that stood for nearly a decade.

Ama Dablam Begins
CHAPTER III · 1989

Ama Dablam Begins

Thamserku's first expedition to Ama Dablam opens what becomes one of the company's signature relationships with a single peak — 76+ expeditions to the Khumbu's great technical mountain organised through the company in the years that followed.

Pasang Lhamu Sherpa
CHAPTER IV · 1993

Pasang Lhamu Sherpa

One of the original founders of Thamserku and the first Nepali woman to summit Everest, on an expedition. Her ascent became a defining moment in Nepal's mountaineering history and her legacy continues to inspire generations of female climbers who follow.

Skis from the Summit
CHAPTER V · 1996

Skis from the Summit

Hans Kammerlander sets the record for the fastest ascent and return from Everest, and completes the first ski descent from its summit — a feat regarded by his contemporaries as among the most audacious in the mountain's history, organised through Thamserku.

New Records and New Routes
CHAPTER VI · 1998

New Records and New Routes

In 1998, Thamserku facilitated Fausto De Stefani’s completion of all 14 eight-thousanders on Kangchenjunga. Thamserku also supported a technical breakthrough with a new route on Kangtega’s previously unattempted Northeast Face.

Manaslu Solo Ascent
CHAPTER VII · 2000

Manaslu Solo Ascent

Jean-Christophe Lafaille's historic solo ascent of Manaslu is organised through Thamserku. In the same era, the company's Manaslu programme stands among the most active operations on the mountain, with expeditions running across consecutive autumn seasons.

Milestones on Everest
CHAPTER VIII · 2001

Milestones on Everest

Temba Tsheri Sherpa summits Everest at the age of sixteen with the support of Thamserku, becoming the youngest climber at the time. On the same year, Bertrand Roche executes world's first paragliding descent from Everest's summit to Advanced Base Camp on the North Side.

Seventy Eight Expeditions
CHAPTER IX · 2006

Seventy Eight Expeditions

Thamserku's highest operational year, with 78 expeditions coordinated across Nepal's ranges in a single season — a volume that demanded ground teams, permits, and logistics chains running in parallel across multiple massifs throughout the year.

The Exploration Record
CHAPTER X · 1987–2019

The Exploration Record

Across three decades, Thamserku ventured beyond the established lines to climb mountains including Kanta Gaton, the Northeast Face of Kangtega, and Dome Kang, and led operations on 66 peaks from Kanchenjunga in the east to the far-western ranges.

The Pause
CHAPTER XI · 2020

The Pause

Thamserku steps back from active operations in a deliberate dormancy through the pandemic years of 2020 - 2023 and the industry upheaval that followed, holding the standards of the original company intact rather than compromising them under market flux.

The Return
CHAPTER XII · 2026

The Return

Thamserku returns under a new generation of leadership, carried by the depth of the Yeti Group's aviation, hospitality, and ground infrastructure, holding the standard of the original company on a new and deliberately chosen portfolio of thirteen peaks.
