Steeper. Quieter. Worth It.
A steeper, quieter climb above the Khumbu Glacier that most walkers pass by — with the clearest valley panorama of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam earned anywhere in the range.
01 — DOSSIER FACTS
The technical step up from Island Peak.
Lobuche East asks more than Island Peak and gives more back. The route climbs slabby rock and snow on fixed lines from a high camp perched above the Khumbu Glacier, finishing on an exposed summit ridge with Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam arranged around you like a council. It is steeper, quieter, and — climbers tend to agree — the better mountain. The technical demand is genuine — slabby rock, fixed-line work on snow and ice, and a long exposed ridge to the summit. For climbers stepping up from Island Peak, or those who want a real Khumbu climb without the commitment of a 7,000m or 8,000m expedition, Lobuche East sits exactly in the right place on the curve. What climbers carry off this mountain is the climbing itself, the ridge, and a council of giants around them.

07 — ROUTE
From Kathmandu to the summit. 4 points on the line.
The South-East Ridge is the normal route — steep enough to demand real technique, short enough to maintain focus. The EBC trek builds altitude, perspective, and context before the climbing begins.
The full EBC trek and Kala Patthar ascent (5,645m) provide thorough acclimatisation before the Lobuche summit attempt. Six nights in Mountain Lodges of Nepal ensure rest and recovery throughout.
A two-day summit window with weather contingency. The climb is short but demanding — precise timing and good conditions on the upper slopes make the difference.
"Quiet answers, before you write to us."
Harder than Island Peak — the route involves slabby rock and steeper snow on fixed lines, with an exposed summit ridge. It rewards climbers with some prior experience.
Prior high-altitude trekking experience is recommended. No prior summit is required, but fitness and comfort at altitude are essential.
Yes. The full EBC trek and Kala Patthar ascent are included as both acclimatisation and an experience in their own right.
The upper mountain requires fixed ropes, steep snow climbing, and crampon proficiency. Guides teach and coach through each section. It is more technical than a trekking peak but accessible to fit beginners.
Six nights in Mountain Lodges of Nepal plus enhanced lodges. The camping phase is minimal — just High Camp before the summit.
