Your Apprenticeship in the Khumbu
Imja Tse (Island Peak) puts glacier travel, fixed lines, and a steep final ridge within reach — real high-altitude technique, built in the shadow of the highest mountains on Earth.
01 — DOSSIER FACTS
A skills-building 6,000m peak without sacrificing comfort or safety.
Follow the classic Everest trail through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and into the upper Khumbu, staying in Mountain Lodges of Nepal properties. Continue through Dingboche and Chhukung to Base Camp at 5,100m. Summit day involves pre-dawn glacier travel, fixed rope sections, and a final exposed snow/ice ridge to 6,160m, with sweeping views of Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam, and Everest. A two-day summit window with weather contingency ensures flexibility. Imja Tse is among the most rewarding introductions to genuine alpine climbing in the Nepal Himalaya — high enough to teach altitude, technical enough to teach rope work, exposed enough to teach focus. For many climbers it serves as the first real step into Himalayan mountaineering, often climbed as preparation for the eight-thousanders that surround it on every side.

07 — ROUTE
From Kathmandu to the summit. 4 points on the line.
The South-West Ridge is the normal route — glacier approach, fixed ropes, and an exposed final ridge that teaches fundamental mountaineering skills. The lodge-based approach ensures you arrive rested and ready.
Built-in acclimatisation days at Namche and Chhukung, combined with gradual height gain through the Khumbu. The camping phase is short — just Base Camp and High Camp — before and after which you return to lodge comfort.
A two-day summit window with weather contingency is built in. Summit day typically involves 8-12 hours of climbing. Pre-dawn start ensures the best snow conditions on the glacier.
"Quiet answers, before you write to us."
Prior high-altitude trekking experience is recommended. No prior summit is required, but fitness and comfort above 4,000m are essential.
Yes. Pre-climb training at Base Camp covers crampon use, fixed rope ascending/descending, glacier travel, and safety protocols. Guides coach you through each step.
Seven nights in Mountain Lodges of Nepal plus enhanced lodges higher up. The camping phase is just 2-3 nights at Base Camp and High Camp.
Typically 8-12 hours. The glacier approach is moderate, but the final ridge is exposed and requires fixed ropes. Fitness and altitude tolerance are more important than technical skill.
Excellent. It teaches fundamental skills — rope work, crampons, glacier travel, summit-day pacing — in a genuine Himalayan environment.
