A Glacier Summit Over Manang
A genuine glacier ascent above the Manang valley, on the Annapurna side of the country — framed by the Annapurna and Manaslu massifs, well clear of the Khumbu's traffic.
01 — DOSSIER FACTS
The Annapurna's quieter classic.
Chulu Far East belongs to climbers who measure a mountain partly by who is not on it. Rising above Manang on the Annapurna Circuit, it offers genuine glacier climbing and a 6,000m summit in a region most climbing traffic never reaches with the Annapurna massif, Gangapurna, and distant Manaslu arranged across the southern sky. Thamserku has operated across the Annapurna and Manang ranges for decades; this is one of the quiet classics of that history. The climb itself is honest glacier work — crevasse-laced approaches, fixed-line sections on the upper mountain, and a final snow ridge to the summit at 6,059 metres. For mountaineers who want a genuine 6,000m climb in a setting most expedition operators have moved past, Chulu Far East remains one of the quiet rewards of the Nepal Himalaya.

07 — ROUTE
From Kathmandu to the summit. 4 points on the line.
The North-East Ridge is the standard line — steep scree, snow, and glaciated terrain where fixed ropes and crampons are essential. Accessible enough for emerging climbers, serious enough to teach real mountaineering skills.
The Annapurna approach provides gradual altitude gain. A full acclimatisation day at Ngawal. Base Camp to High Camp transition rehearses movement on steeper ground before summit day.
Late September to mid-October for autumn. A built-in weather contingency day ensures flexibility. The ridge demands clear conditions for the exposed upper sections.
"Quiet answers, before you write to us."
Prior high-altitude trekking experience is recommended. Chulu Far East is considered one of the more accessible 6,000m peaks, but the ridge demands real crampon and rope proficiency.
Two nights at Kasara Jungle Resort provide a complete change of pace — wildlife, warmth, and recovery after the climb. It turns the expedition into a three-world journey: city, mountains, jungle.
The North-East Ridge involves steep scree, snow, and glaciated sections with fixed ropes. Crampons and an ice axe are essential. Training is provided at Base Camp.
Excellent. Chulu Far East is designed as an ideal introduction to Himalayan peak climbing — real enough to teach skills, supported enough to build confidence.
The Annapurna massif, Gangapurna, and Manaslu are visible throughout the approach and from the summit ridge. On a clear day, the panorama is exceptional.
