The Rehearsal at 7,126m
A serious peak in the restricted Nar Phu valley on the Tibetan frontier — the climb now chosen to test body and systems before an eight-thousander attempt.
01 — DOSSIER FACTS
Behind a restricted valley waits the most intelligent 7,000er in Nepal.
Himlung has quietly become the mountain of choice for climbers preparing deliberately for the 8,000-metre world: high enough to matter, technically moderate enough to focus on altitude performance, and hidden inside the Nar Phu valley — a restricted region of medieval Tibetan villages that requires special permits simply to enter. The exclusivity is not manufactured; it is administrative fact. Thamserku first operated Himlung in 2000 and has returned across the seasons since. The autumn expedition runs on the classic rhythm: a cultural approach through Nar and Phu, a comfortable Base Camp, three high camps, and a long summit day on snow.

Himlung Himal Expedition Highlight
Himlung sits at the upper edge of 7,000m and is widely regarded as one of Nepal's strongest preparation peaks for climbers building towards an eight-thousander.
An approach through the restricted Nar-Phu valley, a Tibetan-rooted region of Manang that few commercial expeditions reach and that retains its full cultural and geographic character.
IFMGA/UIAGM-certified lead guides with extensive high-altitude experience, supported by a dedicated 1:1 personal climbing Sherpa ratio from Base Camp to summit and return.
Carefully sequenced rotations between Base Camp and the higher camps, balancing acclimatisation, recovery, and summit readiness across a clean 36-day operational schedule from arrival to descent.
Five-star Kathmandu hotel before and after the climb, comfortable lodges through the Manang and Nar-Phu approach, and heated private tents with full amenities at Base Camp.
Comprehensive medical kit, emergency oxygen backup, standby rescue Sherpa team, helicopter contingency framework, Leave No Trace policy, and guaranteed gratuities and bonuses for crew.

07 — ROUTE
From Kathmandu to the summit. 6 points on the line.
The West Ridge is the established line — technically manageable but altitude-demanding. The approach through Nar-Phu doubles as structured acclimatisation, arriving at Base Camp with altitude already absorbed.
The trek through the Nar-Phu Valley provides natural altitude gain. A dedicated acclimatisation day at Phu Gaun plus custom rotation schedules prepare the body for the sustained altitude above 6,000m.
Late September to early October provides the autumn window. The West Ridge is weather-sensitive — we monitor conditions and commit only when the window is clear.
"Quiet answers, before you write to us."
Prior 6,000m+ summit experience is recommended. Himlung's challenge is altitude and endurance rather than extreme technicality.
Excellent. The altitude, expedition logistics, cold-weather demands, and multi-week format mirror what 8,000m expeditions require.
A secluded restricted area near the Tibetan border, known for ancient Buddhist villages, dramatic landscapes, and very few visitors. The approach doubles as cultural immersion and natural acclimatisation.
Not typically. Emergency backup is maintained. The climb is designed to be achieved on natural acclimatisation.
Moderately technical. Glacier travel, fixed ropes on steeper sections, and crampon work are required, but the route is not vertically technical like Ama Dablam or Baruntse.
