Where Himalayan Ambitions Begin
Nepal's highest trekking peak, with a summit panorama spanning five of the world's six highest mountains — where many serious climbing lives quietly begin.
01 — DOSSIER FACTS
The first real answer to a serious question: how do I do at altitude?
Mera is not a technical climb. It is an altitude climb, and that is exactly its value. At 6,476 metres it takes you higher than anywhere in Europe, Africa, or the Americas outside the great ranges, across genuine glacier terrain, to a summit panorama including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kangchenjunga in a single sweep. For climbers building toward the 7,000- and 8,000m world, there is no better first examination. Thamserku organises Mera privately and to full expedition standard, the same Base Camp discipline, the same Sherpa leadership, the same honesty about preparation that governs our highest expeditions. The mountain may be called a trekking peak. We do not treat it like one.

07 — ROUTE
From Kathmandu to the summit. 4 points on the line.
The North-East Ridge is the normal route — a broad glaciated dome with steady angles ideal for both climbing and skiing. The Phaplu approach provides a quieter, more gradual acclimatisation journey than standard Lukla routes.
Built-in acclimatisation days combined with gradual height gain through the Hinku Valley. A dedicated rest day at Khare allows glacier skills refreshers and summit strategy discussions.
April for spring, October for autumn. Summit day typically involves 8-12 hours of high-altitude glacier travel. Ski descent conditions depend on snowpack and weather — assessed on the day.
"Quiet answers, before you write to us."
Prior high-altitude trekking experience is recommended. For the ski descent option, strong ski mountaineering proficiency on glacier terrain is essential.
No. Conditions on the day determine feasibility. Safety always takes priority over the descent plan.
The road approach via Phaplu offers a quieter, more gradual acclimatisation journey, avoiding the busiest Khumbu trails.
After summit and descent to Thagnag, a helicopter flies you directly to Lukla, cutting days off the trek out and reducing post-summit fatigue.
Yes. The glacier travel, altitude experience, and expedition format provide solid preparation for 7,000m peaks and beyond.
