Scheduled Flight to China, Qatar & Turkey Operational under Government Watch

Partial modification to the 11th May Travel Update has been come into effect immediately regarding expansion of travel bubble to China, Qatar & Turkey:

  • Nepal will be opening schedule flight to China, Qatar & Turkey with one flight per week by each single airline of respective nations on compliance with each others’ specified health safety protocols
  • Two flights per week agreement between Nepal and India (each by Nepal Airlines and Air India) is still in effect.
  • Special flights such as diplomatic, ambulance and cargo are allowed with advance permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
  • All other flights apart from above mentioned are still in suspension state

Extension of International Flights Ban & Nepal-Delhi Travel Bubble

Further updates regarding ban of International Flights and a travel bubble between Kathmandu and New Delhi are as follows:

  • The suspension period of International schedule flights is extended till 31st May 2021 midnight except two flights a week between Kathmandu and Delhi.
  • Under the Air Travel Bubble agreement made between Nepal and India, two flights a week are permitted; one flight each by Nepal Airlines and Air India.

Suspension of All Domestic and International Flights, Nepal

Due to the increasing no. of cases relating to the new variant of COVID-19, Government of Nepal (GoN) has made some decisions regarding domestic and international flights to prevent and control the spread of virus.

  • All domestic flights are suspended starting from 3 May 2021 until 14 May 2021.
  • All schedule flights, except flights between Nepal and India under air bubble arrangement, have been suspended from 6 May 2021 midnight NST until 14 May 2021 midnight NST.
  • Operation of cargo flights and rescue flights shall be carried out subject to special permission from Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
  • There will be only two flights a week to Delhi, India under Air Travel Bubble arrangement between Nepal and India for the above stated period.
  • The passengers arriving from India shall undergo mandatory quarantine at their own cost for 10 days in hotels enlisted by the Government.
  • Passengers are required to furnish PCR report with photo identification and barcode from CCMC website while arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.

Amidst Lockdown, International Arrival and Departure flights as usual

The ongoing services provided to travelers arriving to Nepal and departing from Nepal will be continued as usual. However, the arrival of foreigners intending to travel third countries via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and using TIA as transit airport will be restricted from 28 April 2021 until next notice.

New Standards of Tourists Visit to Nepal

The Government of Nepal (GoN) has issued new standards for COVID-19 transmission control and prevention in a manner not to adversely affecting tourists visit to Nepal:

 

Before Coming to Nepal

  1. Tourists intending to visit Nepal for tourist activities shall have to coordinate with the local agency in Nepal. The agency concerned shall request to the Department of Tourism (DoT) for mountaineering and to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) for other tourist activities.
  2. After the request from local agency, the Department of Immigration (DoI) and the NTB shall recommend to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and DoI. The agency shall have to make acknowledgement of such recommendations to tourists intending to visit Nepal.

Documents to be submitted before coming to Nepal

  1. The tourists need to produce the negative PCR test report within 72 hours prior to their departure from first port of embarkation, or the card-document showing completion of vaccination (Covax) against COVID-19.
  2. All passengers must present printed bar code of Abroad Returnee Management System after filling duly the online form available in COVID-19 Crisis Management Center’s website
  3. No hotel quarantine upon arrival however, the tourists need to do the PCR test on arrival and they need to stay at the hotel until they test negative. If tested negative, they can continue with their respective program.
  4. Hotel booking document in Nepal.
  5. Travel insurance document valid for the period of Nepal visit including medical and evacuation.

Visa provisions

  1. Tourists shall receive visa from Nepalese Missions in their home country.
  2. On-Arrival-Visa is still not in place, unless the tourists present the recommendation letter of the DoT or NTB to participate in tourist activities in Nepal along with the documents mentioned above.

 

Protocols for new “Covid-19 Variant” Nationals

As per the Government of Nepal, all the passengers traveling from the countries (includes transit) with new COVID-19 variants should follow the following quarantine and health protocols:

 

  1. All passengers flying into Nepal must have COVID-19 test negative report obtained within 72 hours prior to their departure.
  2. All passengers must present printed bar code of Abroad Returnee Management System after filling duly the online form available in COVID-19 Crisis Management Center’s website.
  3. The passengers must book hotels before buying flight ticket from the list of hotels approved by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal.
  4. Visitors staying in hotel quarantine should test for COVID-19 after 5 days at their own expense. Those with negative PCR report are allowed to leave hotel with additional five days home quarantine.
  5. Those who have not tested COVID-19 in five days must stay for ten days hotel quarantine compulsorily.

Important Travel Updates about Visa on Arrival and Entry/Exit Points

The Government of Nepal (GoN) has provisioned some conditions for the foreigner’s arrival in Nepal. Here is the list of the conditions and travel updates in brief:

 

  1. Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport is only for the foreigners holding Diplomatic/Official passport, Foreign Employees working in International Organizations and Non Residential Nepalese (NRN).
  2. Except the above-mentioned individuals, all foreigners should obtain a tourist visa from the Nepalese Diplomatic Missions abroad.
  3. The entry/exit points at the land border remain closed until further notice. Travel information will be updated regularly.
  4. All travelers traveling to Nepal must have a COVID-19 negative report obtained within 72 hours prior to their departure from first port of embarkation. No reports required for children below 5 years accompanied with parents.
  5. All passengers traveling from United Kingdom (UK) or transits are restricted to enter Nepal until further notice.

Travel Updates from United Kingdom (Restrictions)

The Department of Immigration, Nepal has issued a notice regarding the Arrival Restriction from United Kingdom (UK) until further notice. This applies to all the passengers willing to take direct flight or transits.
