Mount K2 is the second-highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 8,611 meters. It is located in the Karakoram mountain range on the border of China and Pakistan. The mountain was named as it is the highest mountain in the Karakoram range. K2 is also known as Mount Godwin Austen a person who first summited the peak. The mountain was first climbed on 31st July 1954 by Italian mountaineer and skier Achille Compagnoni together with Lino Lacedelli. Mount K2 is termed to be the most difficult to climb mountain among 14 eight-thousanders. The well-known mountaineers who successfully climbed K2 describe it as a “killer” and “savage” mountain.
